Objective
Create an all-in-one 'virtual production studio' for a 5-hour long multi-channel broadcast. The client wanted to keep all presenters in a single Teams meeting for simplicity.
Process
I built out a single Teams meeting with breakout rooms to function like a virtual production house. The main call served as the Green Room, and a second was for dedicated presenter prep.
Two more breakout rooms were created for two "On-Air Channels," which both were capable of independent NDI-out feeds, sending NDI sources to our control rooms, to serve both live broadcast channels.
A producer moved presenters between rooms in seconds, while Elemental encoders fed on-air return back into Green and Prep rooms via RTMP-In so talent and producers could monitor the live output.
This kept talent in one meeting for simplicity, while giving production room-level control, clean isolates, and fast handoffs.
Outcome
The 5-hour SKO ran with a total of four simultaneous streams and smooth presenter handoffs, keeping all talent in one meeting while production operated distinct on-air and prep environments.
Coaching and final checks happened in parallel without bleeding into the main on-air feeds, thanks to the independence of the breakout rooms.
NDI feeds from these rooms stayed clean, routing was deterministic, and I saw no cross-feed or sync issues.
The show hit all timing requirements, avoided any critical incidents, and improved talent readiness and producer confidence throughout the event.
